A three-day 1st International Conference on “Tourism Beyond 2050: Future of Mass Tourism” organized by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management of Dhaka University began today February 14, 2017 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of the university. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated it as the chief guest.
Presided over by Chairman of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management Prof. Dr. Shaker Ahmed, the inaugural function was addressed by Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi University of India Prof. Dr. S P Bansal, DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, DU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam and Prof. Dr. Syed Rashidul Hasan.
Welcoming all foreign and local deligates at lush green historic campus of Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique said, the nation moves ahead towards the dream of being a middle imcome country. This is a journey that can only be attained through sustainable GDP growth contributing to the wellbeing of the citizens.
He futher said, tourism and hospitality is not a standalone industry as it has to rely on so many other factors from transport to health to food to recreation and of course, shopping. He thanked the organizers specially the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management for holding the very 1st International Conference on Tourism at Dhaka University.
It may be mentioned that deligates from different countries of the world including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Netherlands and Indonesia are participating in the conference.
