Established in 1921 the Islamic Studies Department was known as the Arabic and Islamic Studies Department until 1980. The Department of Islamic Studies became a separate department in 1980. From its inception it has contributed significantly towards education and culture. Through the years, notable Islamic thinkers, intellectuals and social reformers from this department have made significant contributions in a wide range of fields. The department offers a four-year B.A.Honours and a one-year M.A. Courses. It also offers research programmes for Ph.D and M.Phil degrees. Recently the department has introduced ‘M.A (Evening) in Islamic Studies’ to expand Islamic education in the country. The department provides excellent library and laboratory facilities
